A chicken enthusiast put the poultry and native bird population at risk by attempting to illegally import live eggs.
New Plymouth woman Karen Joanne Legget has been fined more than $45,000 after earlier being found guilty of three biosecurity charges.
She bought live eggs on eBay from Scotland, England and Wales, and falsely declared them as chocolate eggs.
The Ministry of Primary Industries says her actions were a deliberate and calculated attempt to avoid New Zealand biosecurity measures.
