A warning that protection orders can't prevent every tragedy.
Family Law Section chairman Allan Cooke says a protection order is no silver bullet.
"No piece of paper's going to protect someone from being attacked by a former partner who's outraged."
GPS tracking could be the next step, in preventing murders happening while protection orders are in place.
Cooke says protection orders are effective, to a point.
"As a public policy issue, there needs to be some kind of perhaps other form of intervention that would prevent the person coming near a person with a protection order."
Allan Cooke says things like GPS monitoring could form part of that discussion.
