The trial of the man accused of beating and killing Christchurch baby Ihaka Stokes begins today.
Troy Kevin Taylor, the partner of the baby's mother, Mikala Stokes, has pleaded not guilty to assaulting the child on July 2, 2015 and murdering him the next day.
Detective Inspector Greg Murton said at the time it was the "most serious attack he had seen on a child."
Name suppression for Taylor was lifted in December that same year.
All other details around the case remain suppressed.
