The first detective on the scene of the Kawerau siege where four officers were shot has been cross examined by the man alleged to have shot at him.
28-year-old Rhys Warren is on trial at the High Court in Hamilton, charged with multiple counts of attempted murder and firing at police officers.
Warren, representing himself, questioned Detective Darryn Gabb, the man who first entered the property to find cannabis but had to hide as gunshots were fired around him.
Warren asked if he had any evidence that cannabis was found through a tunnel on his property, to which Detective Gabb said he only had his word as a police officer.
When asked if Detective Gabb had permission to enter tangata whenua land without a warrant, Justice Timothy Brewer stopped the line of questioning due to repeated warnings about bringing up Maori sovereignty law.
The trial continues.
