A teenager accused of attacking a nursing student and holding her at knife point has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance.

18-year-old Tane Faatafa has appeared by video link in the Christchurch District Court.

He's charged with carrying a knife and wounding a female student - as well as stealing her handbag and laptop.

The woman was attacked in Hagley Park walking back to her car after a nightshift at Christchurch Hospital.

Faatafa did not enter a plea and will be back in court in a week.
