Police are searching across the upper North Island for a car used in a fatal hit and run in west Auckland on Saturday night.

Jacob Pakura died when he was hit by a car on Rua Rd in Glen Eden.

The vehicle is believed to have been badly damaged in the incident, but the car and the driver haven't been found.

Joseph's heartbroken family yesterday made an impassioned plea for the driver to give him or herself up.

Detectives are working through the review and continuing to gather CCTV footage from Glen Eden and the greater West Auckland area.

Motorway cameras throughout Auckland are also being checked.
