The man accused of kidnapping a 23-year-old woman and assaulting her at a West Auckland quarry is a former president of a branch of the RSA.

59 year old Colin Jack Mitchell has pleaded NOT guilty to charges of abduction, wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and assault with intent to commit sexual violation.

Police allege he took the 23-year-old without her consent as she walked through Grey Lynn, following a night our with friends at the annual Pride Parade.

She woke in the quarry to find she was partially clothed, had gashes to her face and head, and a man was standing over her with a baseball bat.

Mitchell had been the president of the Onehunga RSA as recently as March last year.

It's unclear when his tenure ended, and the RSA is not commenting as the matter is before the courts.
