Crown prosecutor Aaron Perkins, QC has opened the Crown's case against Rhys Warren, the man alleged to have shot four police officers during a siege in Kawerau in March last year.

The 28-year-old Warren is on trial in the High Court at Hamilton on a number of charges including attempted murder and using firearms on police officers.

Mr Perkins says he will prove that on the 9th of March Warren used at least two firearms on the officers, inflicting numerous gun shot wounds including a serious brain injury as a result of a shot to the head.

The four officers who were shot are all expected to give evidence during the trial.

The trial will go ahead with only 11 jurors, however - Justice Timothy Brewer this morning discharged a woman juror because she informed him she had a connection with one of the policeman involved in the operation.

The trial will now be heard by 7 woman and 4 men.
