Police are investigating the alleged racial abuse of a Fijian rugby player during a match in Christchurch.
The Canterbury Rugby Union has made a complaint to police after Sake Aca was yelled at and reduced to tears on Sunday during the Hawkins Trophy Rugby Final at Lincoln University.
A statement from the union says the abuse is believed to have come from a university supporter, or supporters, who were on the embankment.
It says the university has identified a number of people who were in the area who may be able to assist police with their inquiries.
Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Cottom says they will speak to the player and work with the rugby union to identify those involved.
