It's being called a slow-motion police pursuit in Auckland.

A suspected drunk-driver led police on a 40 minute chase south of Auckland last night - at half the speed limit.

It began in Papakura when officers spotted a car driving erratically.

Police followed but the car refused to pull over, despite driving at 50 kms an hour in a 100 kms an hour zone.

A second patrol car joined the chase but the driver still refused to pull over.

After 38 minutes, the vehicle was stopped after it ran over police spikes in Pukekohe.
