UPDATED 5.42PM: Police have today released CCTV video showing a vehicle arriving and leaving a Riverhead quarry where a young woman was left after being viciously abducted and attacked.

The woman, who is now assisting police with their investigation, was found in a timber yard in Riverhead near Auckland early Sunday morning, some 25 kilometres from where she was last seen at the corner of Ponsonby Road and Karangahape Road.

The woman had woken up in a quarry with gashes to her head and face, and some clothing taken off. She was out with friends in Ponsonby before the attack and doesn't remember what happened.

Detective Senior Sergeant Kim Libby said the woman has suffered lacerations to her head and a suspected broken thumb.

He said she was talking to a stranger when her friends split up, and she was last seen on CCTV alone with him.

Police have now released security camera footage of a car going into and leaving the quarry.

They believe it's very likely the victim was inside that car, and possibly unconscious on the way in.

Police also said they've had several calls in relation to the case. Anyone with information has been asked to contact the enquiry team on 021 191 4085.

Investigators are working to identify a man seen at the Mobil petrol station on the corner of Ponsonby and Karangahape roads.

Detective Senior Sergeant Kim Libby said they want to speak to a man who was captured on CCTV footage talking to her about 10.20pm on Saturday night.

"He could possibly be a witness but he also could be the person who is responsible for taking her, so we want to speak to him as soon as possible," Libby said.

The man was wearing a long-sleeved collared shirt, shorts, and black or navy Nike sneakers.
