UPDATED 1.20pm: Human DNA was found under the fingernails of  Christine and Amber Lundy after their murders - but not enough to get a profile.

ESR forensic scientist Bjorn Sutherland is giving evidence at the retrial of Mark Lundy for the murders.

He says fingernail and toenail clippings were tested as part of the investigation process.

Earlier in the trial Lundy's defence team said DNA was found under the fingernails of both victims that doesn't match Lundy.

Meanwhile, blue and orange fragments were found in samples of blood and hair taken from the scene of Christine and Amber Lundy's murders.

ESR forensic scientist Bjorn Anderson is continuing his evidence in the retrial of Mark Lundy for the 2000 murders.

He says the fragments were also in samples taken from Christine Lundy's sheets.

"The colour of these fragments correspond by eye with the blue paint on the crescent spanner."

When opening the prosecution - the Crown said the tools in Lundy's shed were painted light blue and orange.

Tiny drops of blood found on Mark Lundy's shirt were found to contain DNA belonging to Amber Lundy.

ESR forensic scientist Bjorn Sutherland says tape lifts from the shirt revealed very small red particles, which chemical tests revealed as likely to be blood.

"Three of these spots were cut out from these tape lifts and forwarded for DNA testing. This testing showed the biological testing in the sample could have come from Amber Lundy."

Amber Lundy had turned to leave her mother's room, when she was struck from behind by the weapon that killed her.

Bjorn Sutherland says Christine Lundy was attacked with a tomahawk like weapon, as she lay in bed.

"Amber Lundy received the first blow from this blood stained implement as she was upright and leaving the master bedroom."
