A man has appeared in the New Plymouth District Court charged with the murder of stop-go road worker George Taiaroa.
He's been granted interim name suppression until Monday.
The man entered no plea and has been remanded in custody.
Police Detective Superintendent Tim Anderson is satisfied at making an arrest, more than two and a half years after the murder.
He says cases like this are rare in New Zealand, but it shows police will never give up.
An application is being made to transfer the case to the Rotorua High Court for the man's next appearance in December.
