A man accused of a cold case killing in Switzerland could be removed from New Zealand.

An Auckland District Court judge has found there's sufficient evidence for the man to stand trial for murder in the Swiss city, where his former partner was found dead in 2000.

Lauren Presley adds he'll be imprisoned until a decision is made on his extradition by the Immigration Minister.

"In the Auckland district court today, a woman supporting the man broke down crying when she heard that the likely outcome would be an extradition."

The case has tight suppression orders.
