UPDATED 5.48PM: A man accused of murder is on the run in Auckland.

Police say 17-year-old Beauen Wallace-Loretz was last night assisted by an associate to leave his Avondale address after disconnecting his electronic bracelet.

They've been making inquiries as to his whereabouts since being notified by the security company that monitors electronic bailees that he'd taken off around 11pm last night.

Soon after that, he called Corrections who attempted to convince him to turn himself in.

Wallace-Loretz is considered dangerous and shouldn't be approached.

Detective Inspector Scott Beard says police were tipped off by the other people living at the Avondale home where Wallace Loretz had been bailed.

"They had some concerns about him so they contacted police, which is to their credit."

"Two minutes later, the police were at the address, but he had already left."

Police have notified the family of Ihaia Gillman-Harris who Wallace-Loretz is accusing of murdering in Epsom in December.

Anyone with information is told to call 111.
