A judge has told a man guilty of attempted murder he's more sick, than bad.
Ruka Hemopo has been sentenced to six years and six months for attempted murder, after slashing the throat of a woman in Porirua last year.
He was also sentenced to four years and four months for wounding with intent to cause greivous bodily harm, for wounding another woman with a hammer - which he'll serve concurrently.
In sentencing in the High Court in Wellington Justice Kos acknowledged the reason Hemopo had wound up in court, was due to his delusional disorder.
"Your delusions sparked the incident that led to these convictions, combined with your perceptions of persecution, your disorder made you jealous, angry, and then violent," Kos said.
