A man will appear in court today over a gang shootout at a busy park in Rotorua's CBD.

Shots were fired at a car at Kuirau Park in the CBD on a Saturday, near a popular playground and local market.

Witnesses have told police between two and eight people were involved in the gang dispute.

Detective Senior Sergeant John Wilson said one man will appear in Rotorua District Court today and further arrests are likely.

"The 27-year-old man faces a number of charges, including firearms charges."

Mr Wilson said other people may have been involved, so further arrests could be made.

He said they're asking for the public's help to arrest anyone else who was involved and bring them before the courts as well.

Police say they'd like anyone with video of the incident to come forward.
