Police have issued an arrest warrant for Jamie Lesley Jones in connection with an alleged hit and run that left a cyclist in a critical condition in the Napier yesterday.

Emergency services were called to the incident on Waterworth Ave, Onekawa, at 11.45am.

Detective Sergeant Darren Pritchard said the 49-year-old victim, a man from Napier, was involved in an altercation with another man before being struck by a vehicle.

"The driver of the vehicle left the area immediately after the incident."

A warrant has been issued for 31-year-old Jamie Lesley Jones, of Napier, in connection with the incident.

The victim remained in a critical condition in Hawke's Bay Hospital.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Jones was asked to contact police on (06) 831 0700 or report anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
