A man has been charged after another man was stabbed in the Auckland suburb of Otahuhu.

Police and emergency services were called to Marjorie Jayne Crescent about 1 yesterday morning.

Police said today that a 50-year-old man has since been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He appeared in the Manukau District Court yesterday and has been remanded in custody until he reappears at the end of the month.

The victim, who was initially taken to hospital in a critical condition, is now in a serious but stable condition.

The circumstances of the stabbing are not yet known.

However, police confirmed the men knew each other and they are not looking for anyone else.

Meanwhile, ambulance and police staff are at the scene of an incident involving a firearm in Rototuna, a suburb in northern Hamilton.

Police say they arrived in Roderick Place at 1.40 this afternoon to assist ambulance staff.

A St John Ambulance spokeswoman said there were no suspicious circumstances.

Police say there is no danger to the public.
