A New Zealand man has been arrested in Ireland, after police swooped on a cannabis growing operation.

They raided a house in County Cork, which is believed to be run by a Chinese triad gang.

The Irish Times reports a Serbian-born 55-year-old with New Zealand citizenship was one of three people taken in for questioning after police discovered a cannabis-growing house containing 300 plants, worth a potential €250,000.

A Malaysian man and a Hong-Kong-born man with British citizenship were also arrested.

Under Irish law, they can be held for seven days before they have to be charged, or released without charge.

The New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said it had seen reports of the arrest but "has not been approached for consular assistance".
