A court has been told how a Far North man was stuck at home with an employee who had just admitted to killing his partner for an hour before police arrived.

Mathew Korewha is on trial in the High Court at Whangarei accused of beating Barbara Moka to death.

Hokianga Copthorne Hotel owner, Shane Lloyd says Korewha came round his house to tell him he killed Ms Moka after losing it with her and hadn't slept since he left her body under a log.

Mr Lloyd says Korewha kept repeating he was scared he was going to be killed in prison and wanted Mr Lloyd to help him commit suicide.
