Police investigating a violent assault in Wanaka want to hear from anyone inside the convenience store when the man was bashed.

The victim is still in intensive care in Dunedin Hospital.

He was set upon at 3am on Saturday in the Night and Day store on Ardmore Street.

Two local men charged over the incident have appeared in the Queenstown District Court and been remanded in custody until their next appearance.

Police say there were a number of people in the shop at the time of the assault and want them to come forward.
