More health professionals are set to take the stand, as the trial of the man accused of killing baby Ihaka Stokes reaches its fourth day.

The baby’s de-facto stepfather, 23-year-old Troy Kevin Taylor’s accused of assaulting the baby on July 2nd 2015, and killing him the next day.

The 15-month-old sustained 59 separate injuries before his death.

Although both the Crown and defence understand the injuries to be non-accidental, defence council Phillip Shamy points out there were two people present that day.

In the beginning of the trial, he asked the jury of six men and six women to keep an open mind.

He said they’d have to be absolutely sure the baby’s mother, Mikala Stokes, was innocent before Taylor can be proven guilty of murder.

The trial is set down for two weeks.
