Five men have been arrested in connection with the deaths of Raymond and James Fleet, whose bodies were found in Mamaku Forest.

They are due to appear in court on Wednesday facing numerous charges.

Rotorua police say the charges range from murder, manslaughter, accessory after the fact of murder, manufacture of methamphetamine and possession of substances, materials and equipment with intent.

Raymond Fleet, 51, and his 25-year-old nephew James were reported missing on August 10. Their bodies were discovered seven days later.

Four of those arrested - aged 34, 29, 26 and 21 - are due to appear in Rotorua District Court.
The fifth man, 26, is scheduled to appear in Whakatane District Court.

Rotorua area commander Anaru Pewhairangi said he wanted to acknowledge the work of Detective Senior Sergeant Mark van Kempen and the whole investigation team.

"This type of incident is extremely rare in Rotorua and I know it has shocked our community," he said.

"We hope the arrests begin to bring some closure for their whanau."
