UPDATED 12.23pm: The Auckland jury in the Shalvin Prasad murder trial has returned to court to ask the judge for clarification on the term "beyond reasonable doubt".

The 12-person jury resumed deliberations just after 11:30am.

They requested Justice Geoffrey Venning clarify the role of reasonable doubt in the trial.

Shivneel Kumar and Bryne Permal are charged with murdering Mr Prasad in January 2013.

In giving his closing address yesterday Justice Venning told the jury the onus is on the Crown to prove the men are guilty beyond reasonable doubt.
