A man is appearing in court today over a vicious assault on a newspaper delivery man in South Auckland.

Soane Mateo was waiting to collect papers at a service station early last Saturday when he was attacked by two men wielding a knife, a brick and a gun.

Counties Manukau police released CCTV footage of the attack yesterday.

Later in the day, they charged a 20-year-old man with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The man has also been charged with two counts of aggravated robbery after an incident three days earlier at a takeaway store, and another incident earlier this week at a Z Service Station.

The second man is still on the loose and police haven't identified him yet.

Soane Mateo is still in hospital and is receiving ongoing support.
