Con-men posing as Inland Revenue staff appear to be targeting Christchurch residents in their homes.

People living in Riccarton and Ilam have contacted Newstalk ZB saying men claiming to be from IRD are knocking on doors and demanding money.

Angie Taylor said a man came to her 70-year-old mother's house last weekend asking for financial details.

She said the man reacted oddly when her mother wouldn't co-operate.

"He's then gone off on a tangent saying that he's on the wrong street or is this the street that I should be on. It was quite suspicious and it freaked my mum out to be honest," she said.

Christchurch Police say they've had no reports of scammers in the past 30 days, but say no one should discuss their finances with strangers.
