UPDATED 3:44pm:Â A man has appeared in court after threatening to shoot staff at the Gisborne Work and Income office.
The 52 year old has been charged with threatening to kill.
Senior Sergeant Steve Sutherland says the man called the national contact centre around 10:15am this morning.
He said if his wishes weren't met, he had a gun and would go to the local office and shoot staff.
The Gisborne office was immediately closed.
The man was found about an hour later and surrendered himself to police without further incident.
