The mother of murdered Christchurch school girl Jade Bayliss believes a new information sharing arrangement between Australia and New Zealand has the potential to save lives.
The government's announced a new deal that will give authorities a summary of offences, case history and gang connections of every offender deported from Australia.
Tina Lawson's daughter Jade Bayliss was murdered in 2011 by Lawson's former partner, who'd previously spent time in an Australian jail for killing another teenager.
She said the new deal could avoid future victims, as information will be at the fingertips of police and other agencies.
"I think its going to make a huge difference - if some body goes to the police station and is wanting to know a little bit of information about any gang connections or criminals, all of the information is going to be on file."
She said there was nothing like this available when her daughter was murdered.
"There was nothing on the computer system - surely there would've been a paper trace somewhere - but they would have had to dig for miles to find it.
Lawson said she hopes this new arrangement will make a "massive difference."
