A jury has heard how a teenager was left for dead with her head caved in, cable-tied and unconscious after a meth-fuelled attack over a love spat.

The Crown has opened it's case in the High Court at Auckland, against five people defending a range of charges relating to an attack on a 19-year-old in Dome Valley last year.

Prosecutor Henry Steele told the jury the woman was found lying in a patch of flattened grass where she'd been left for dead 10 hours earlier.

He says how she got there was a complicated story, which began after one of the defendants believed the victim had slept with her ex-boyfriend.

The victim was allegedly assaulted with tasers and kidnapped in an earlier incident ... before again being kidnapped, tortured, sexually violated [with a cricket bat] and hit seven times on the head with a hammer.

The trial is set down for four weeks.
