A 30-year-old man has been remanded in custody after appearing in Auckland District Court over the alleged abduction of a woman in broad daylight.
The man, whose name cannot be revealed, faces charges of indecent assault, violence with a sexual intent, taking a person with intent to have sexual intercourse and unlawfully entering a building over the incident on Tuesday.
He did not enter a plea or seek bail and will reappear in court on March 9.
Police earlier arrested him in Mt Albert on Tuesday evening after a woman was allegedly abducted in Eden Terrace.
The woman, in her mid-20s, was walking along Haslett Street on Monday afternoon when she was grabbed from behind and dragged her into a car, police said.
She managed to break free, open the door and jump out in a nearby street.
She was taken to hospital with moderate injuries but later discharged.
Police then embarked on a major manhunt, releasing video footage of a suspected car and going door-to-door in the area.
