Police are asking for help from the public over the violent robbery of a man in Ashburton.

The victim had just parked his truck in the Ashburton River Track parking area on Thursday morning, planning to go for a run.

He was approached by two men asking for a smoke...one then hit him the face and knocked him to the ground.

The man was kicked in the ribs and stomped on.

His attackers then took $700 from his wallet, which was in his truck.

He's told police he got the cash out to buy products for his new business, something he planned to do after his run.

Police believe it's an isolated incident - but would like public information.

They are seeking two men, described as Polynesian, and in their mid-20s.
