Three people have been arrested following a fight between two groups of boys in Christchurch's North New Brighton this week.

Witnesses reported a heated verbal exchange on Monday evening between the two groups, which escalated into a physical altercation before one group fled the scene.

One 13-year-old boy was taken to Christchurch Hospital and three others in the group were assessed by medics at the scene.

A 29-year-old man has been charged with assault and is due to appear in Christchurch District Court on March 5th.

Two 14-year-old boys have been referred to Youth Services.

Police investigations into the incident are continuing.
