A second police officer's been injured in a brazen attack today.
Wellington Police are investigating a robbery in Manners Mall where a man was being beaten up by a group of three males and two females and had his mobile phone stolen.
The victim tried to run off but was chased by the group.
Police were called out and an officer chased one of the offenders who then turned around and struck the officer several times around the head with a bottle of alcohol.
The officer was taken to Wellington Hospital where he received several stitches to his head, and is off work for some time.
An 18-year-old male is in police custody overnight charged with robbery and aggravated wounding on a police officer.
Police are appealing for witnesses.
In Foxton today, a police officer was attacked and had a dog set upon him.
The offender later surrendered after police warned they had a taser.
