UPDATED 2.51pm: St John is pleased that justice has been served today in the sentencing of a former central Hawke's Bay ambulance officer for sexually abusing his patients.

Christopher King was imprisoned 14 and a half years, with a minimum of eight years, for sexually violating four female patients in his ambulance between 2010 and July last year.

He was also sentenced for sexually abusing two girls at a Hastings workshop where he worked as a mechanic between 2002 and 2006.

St John Territory Manager, Brendon Hutchinson says they're pleased Christopher King will feel the consequences of his actions by serving a lengthy sentence.

He says St John hope the result will go some way towards repairing the damage he has caused.

The judge who sentenced a disgraced St John officer to 14 and a half years in prison calls it one of the worst cases of sexual offending in the country.

Judge Geoff Rea says King's offending was an absolute breach of trust and he hid behind his ambulance uniform to prey on the vulnerable.

Judge Rea says the damage done to the victims and the St John service may take years to repair.

He imposed a minimum non-parole period of eight years.
