Christchurch Police are asking for help to identify a man who's wanted over a stabbing in New Brighton.

A 22-year-old man was stabbed in the neck with a knife, and is currently in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The incident was in a car park on Marine Parade at about 10:30 last night.

Detective Sergeant Mike Freeman says the offender is between 20 and 35 years old with a slight build and fair skin.

He was wearing a black hoodie, and made off in a gold or bronze coloured Nissan.
