Fire crews have managed to control a large fire moving in different directions South of Canterbury.
The vegetation fire was reported just before four near the Burnham Military Camp and was fought by 12 fire crews.
It burnt through a number of hedges and disconnected power briefly before crews were able to control it.
Deputy Principal fire officer on the scene Douglas Marshall says the fire caused damage to vegetation but didn't reach the houses.
"Fire's gone through a number of hedges but it's also got into an old shingle pit which unfortunately has a lot of wood and other materials stored in it which is heavily smoking at the moment."
