Christchurch submitters will have their say today in the last round of the Silver Fern Farms consent hearing.

The meat company want's permission from Environment Canterbury to use the Waimakariri River as an emergency dumping ground.

The consent will allow it to dump up to three-and-a-half thousand cubic metres of waste while the earthquake damaged Bromley sewage plant's repaired.

Open water swimmer Daniel Abel says his submission this morning is strongly against the proposal.

He wants the Waimakariri to be cleaned up and used by the whole community, not just one business.
