Public consultation will close today on the government's proposed new model for Environment Canterbury.
In March, the government announced it wants to implement six appointed ECAN members, to work alongside seven ratepayer elected members at next year's local body elections.
It feared a wholly elected council was too risky, as Canterbury still faces issues like water management and earthquake recovery.
The announcement was met with frustration from locals, as they'll still lack full power over the council.
People are able to still make submissions on the proposal until five today, on the ECAN website.
