Christchurch residents are relieved the popular Kennedy's Bush track is to re-open.

The popular Christchurch walking track will re-open on Easter Sunday. It has been closed for more than a year after the Port Hill's fires.

Chrys Horn started the Kennedys Bush Track Network Facebook group after the track's opening was delayed.

More than 600 members pressured the council to get things moving, and Horn says it has been a success.

"Now it's open, all is forgiven and it's nice to just go up there and walk. But it has been a long time and people are just champing at the bit."

She says it was a long wait for potentially dangerous dead trees to be removed.

"It's thanks to the landowners who've got it done. They may have needed a bit of pushing to do it, but they got it done and we're just really grateful."
