The University of Canterbury Students Association's warning students not to go over the top ahead of Addington Cup.

UCSA president James Addington said they're encouraging all students to register any pre-parties with the Good One party register.

"That connects through with various community groups involved, and that'll involve getting food delivered around, pancakes and various things."

The Addington Cup, part of the New Zealand Cup and Show Week, is the biggest day in horse racing in Christchurch.

The event has become overshadowed in recent years by the drunken behaviour of patrons.
