It's looking increasingly likely Lyttelton Port workers will strike, as mediation this morning comes to a standstill.
The Rail and Maritime Union wants a four per cent increase for their workers but LPC is only willing to give three per cent.
Union organiser John Kerr says the sticking point is the illegal lockout of workers.
"So the company from our part perspective have been intransigent and inflexible. They haven't changed their position, they said that there's no prospect of them changing their position."
John Kerr says if an agreement can't be reached this afternoon, the workers will go on strike from just after midnight tomorrow.
