A successful programme reducing tension between street workers and residents in Christchurch is at risk with delays in funding.

The New Zealand Prostitutes' Collective has asked the Linwood, Central, Heathcote Community Board for $40,000 to fund outreach services for street-based sex workers.

The committee was supposed to vote on the funding last night, but the meeting didn't go ahead after not reaching quorum.

National Coordinator Catherine Healey says the money was to fund outreach services for street-based sex workers.

"It has put a lot of stress on us, we are having to go out far more frequently then we have ever had to."

The Prostitutes' Collective currently have a voluntary person in the role which cannot be sustained for much longer.
