Race favourite Lazarus has taken out the New Zealand Trotting Cup well ahead of the pack in Christchurch.
More than 20,000 punters have embraced the sunshine at Cup Day at Addington Raceway today.
Police have had a strong presence, even on the catwalk where they took part in the best-dressed competition.
Senior Sargeant Gordon Spite said this year's event has been the best behaved yet.
"Up until now it's been really good. The significant thing has been much, much less pre-loading."
Punters were encouraged by warm temperatures in the high teens.
Among the suits and dresses, two racegoers in superhero suits are standing out from the crowd.
One of them, Micheal Willets, has been coming to Cup Day in fancy dress every year for more than 20 years now.
"Bumblebee, all the superheroes as well, like your Captain Americas. I've done Supermans, Spider-Mans, Batmans, I've been dared to do a Wonder Woman but I'll wait till I start wrinkling up."
