Christchurch's freedom camper population is being given a second chance by the Christchurch City Council.
Freedom campers were forced out of a New Brighton car park over the weekend, after tensions with nearby residents reached breaking point.
Councillor Glen Livingstone says many of the campers have found a new spot at Waimairi Beach, but they won't be moved on just yet.
"They're close to toilet facilities. They're a bit further away from some of the neighbours there.
"You can't say that it's the same - or will be the same - as what happened at Beresford Street."
Glen Livingstone is hopeful the new environment will create a change in the campers' behaviour.
