The mayor of Christchurch hopes a new report on climate change will ring alarm bells for the rest of the country.
Parliamentary commissioner for the environment, Dr Jan Wright, has issued a stern warning to the Government, after research found seas will rise 30 centimetres by 2050.
Lianne Dalziel says Christchurch has been put through its paces already with flooding, but it's not just a local issue.
She's calling for a joint-approach to tackling the problem, with councils, regional authorities and the Crown working together as one.
Ms Dalziel says the government could lend a helping hand by providing an economic weigh-up of the costs and benefits involved in addressing the issue.
