The government is welcoming the return of Christchurch City Council's powers to grant building consents.
It was stripped of its consenting accreditation 18 months ago, over concerns about its slow processing - prompting the government to install a Crown manager to run the council's building department.
Building Minister Nick Smith says the manager's role will cease at the end of this month.
"It was a body blow to the recovery when the accreditation was lost. This is a huge boost to both the confidence in the institution of the City Council, but also in the rebuild process."
