Councillors are back on deck for the first Christchurch City Council meeting of the year this morning.

On the table's the council's push for public feedback on the Government's latest Block Offer - oil exploration on and off Canterbury shores.

They're concerned a proposed offshore exploration site in Banks Peninsula is too close to the Marine Mammal Sanctuary and conservation land.

They want the community's input before submitting their opinion.

Also on the list is further discussion on the council's proposed Development Authority, which would look after the planning and development of public projects.
