Transport authorities in Christchurch are imploring people to use other routes after a massive traffic jam at Hagley Avenue this morning.

Hagley Avenue is now a left-turn only onto Moorhouse.

That saw massive congestion this morning with a lot of drivers trying to turn right into Selwyn Street.

Canterbury Transport Operations Centre spokesperson Tresca Forrester says anyone travelling south is being encouraged to use Durham and Antigua Streets to prevent a reoccurrence tomorrow.
