A group of Phillipstown residents in Christchurch are fed up with anti-social behaviour from a Housing New Zealand complex.

Those living around the block on England Street say they're dealing with defecation, domestic assault, drug use and noise.

Some residents say they don't feel safe anymore and suspect they are being watched.

A resident of 37-years, who's had her house broken into, says the string of burglaries along the street is worrying.

"I go to work. They can actually see down the street. They probably see the times I go and come back, and it probably happened in between that."

Residents living inside the block are also worried, having witnessed synthetic cannabis use, and strangers driving in and out of the complex.

One tenant told Newstalk ZB others in the complex are dealing drugs and the troubles have continued for months.

"Complained to my landlord, told her about it, and nothing's actually been done about it."

Christchurch Central MP Dr Duncan Webb says Housing New Zealand is working hard to be a good landlord - but the problem has to be taken seriously.

"Any tenant who is behaving in an unacceptable manner, they are going to have to be moved out of the residence. That's essentially an issue of last resort. If there are activities going on that are criminal, and that may well be the case here, then the police would be involved."

Confidence that Housing New Zealand is doing what it can to deal with anti social behaviour at a complex in Christchurch.

He says social housing is important - but elderly residents shouldn't have to sell their homes to get away from unruly tenants.

"I think what's the problem here is perhaps the response hasn't quite been what's nervous, so that's why we're moving now but you've got to get on to these things before they get out of hand."

Residents will meet with police, Housing New Zealand and Duncan Webb on Friday.
